Samuel Frickleton

Samuel Frickleton (1 April 1891 – 6 August 1971) was a soldier in the New Zealand Military Forces who served with the New Zealand Military Forces during the First World War. He was awarded the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award of the British Commonwealth for gallantry in the face of the enemy, for his actions in the Battle of Messines.
==Early life==
Frickleton was born on 1 April 1891 in Slamannan in Scotland, one of 11 children born to a coal-miner and his wife. He immigrated to New Zealand in 1913 and lived on the West Coast. He worked alongside four of his brothers in a coal mine in Blackball.
